NYSC World
A multiplayer Nigerian life-sim you can play free in your browser.

Brand Identity first
The brand came before the build.
An N drawn as a road under a rising sun, with Nigeria at the start of the journey, and the line Explore. Grow. Belong. Deep and secondary greens with sun yellow on warm light and near-black, Sora for headlines and Inter for the interface, built to work from an app icon to bus-stop posters and camp merch.

Overview
NYSC World is my own multiplayer browser game: a free Nigerian life-simulation where you survive orientation camp, get posted, and build a whole life in Lagos alongside other players. It is a fictional game inspired by Nigerian life and is not affiliated with the NYSC. It's also my first game. When LagosLife launched near the end of my own service year, I took it as a challenge to build one myself: I designed the brand, then built it end to end, from the 3D world and the in-game phone to the real-time server and the economy.
The challenge
A life-sim has to feel alive, fair and fast. It needed to feel unmistakably Nigerian while staying welcoming to outsiders, run on ordinary phones in a browser, keep every naira that moves between real players honest, and still be cheap to build and run while the idea is proven. That meant a server-authoritative design from day one.
What I built
- A full journey: create a character, see a server-rolled background, receive a call-up letter, travel, and arrive at a 3D orientation camp with a daily schedule, hostels, a market and soldier NPCs who keep order.
- Real-time multiplayer: see other players, proximity chat and emotes, and tap a player to add them, message them or send money.
- The phone as the main interface: bank, messages, contacts, a map showing who's where, jobs and alerts.
- Work and money: mini-game shifts with server-validated pay and a market with zone-checked purchases.
- Life after camp: postings to a Lagos city with districts, workplaces and community halls, homes to rent and furnish, and an isometric map view.
- Web Push notifications and reconnect-where-you-left-off saves.
Design & build
Everything is TypeScript. The client uses Three.js for the 3D world with React and Zustand for the UI. The server runs Fastify for the API and Colyseus for authoritative game rooms, with PostgreSQL through Drizzle. Money lives in a double-entry, immutable ledger stored as whole naira, so balances can always be audited. Movement is server-authoritative with client prediction, and an instanced crowd renderer with level of detail keeps draw calls low on mobile. Automated tests cover the ledger, the player journey, anti-cheat checks and real two-client WebSocket sessions.
What it delivers
NYSC World shows the full range of what I build: a real-time, data-backed web app with a 3D front end, a fair economy and a foundation designed to scale as more players arrive.
